wonderfully treated

Heat-pressure treatment

Heat-pressure treatment

Unlike ammonia fuming, Trapa utilises the interaction of heat and pressure that caramelises the sugar in the cells of the wood (xylose) and gently darkens the wood. As a result, the wood develops light-stable earthy, coffee and cocoa colours. Because the wood is treated inside, yellowing is largely prevented.

Refining with lye treatment

Refining with lye treatment

Our natural wooden floors are not simply treated on the surface, but deep inside the pores - with lye and oil. The lye allows the components of the wood to react in a natural and ecologically sustainable way, creating a wonderful, permanent colour from inside out.

Refining with crystallising oil

Refining with crystallising oil

This provides permanent protection for the floor so that it looks as beautiful as ever even after many years of hard wear and tear. The crystallising oil strengthens the wood inside the pores instead of suffocating it with a film-forming layer on the surface. The breathable surface regulates the atmosphere in the room and makes the floor resistant to water and dirt.

Drying

Drying

The wood is air-dried for several months, then it is chamber-dried gently, heat-treated and, finally – with 7% remaining wood moisture – it is processed into top, middle, and bottom layers.
