Vacation Home in Iceland

Architecture that lets the landscape breathe

Nestled on a densely forested hillside, this boutique alpine hut is situated amid the stunning landscape surrounding Þingvellir. This historic site at the boundary of two tectonic plates, the view across Þingvallavatn to the surrounding glaciers, and its own black lava beach make the location truly special. Carefully integrated into the natural surroundings, the building preserves the existing tree cover and opens up to the vastness of Iceland through generous glass surfaces.

VISION

The open living area, which opens onto the sheltered southwest-facing terrace, frames the view of the stunning natural landscape to the southwest while also offering a view from the terrace through the building to the mountain ridge.

We chose Josko because we were already impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of the windows in our apartment in Salzburg. Given Iceland’s extreme weather conditions, we didn’t want to compromise on our windows. With support from Josko partner Hagenauer, we also have a reliable partner by our side.

LIGHT, WARMTH, SPACE

The living room demonstrates how seamlessly architecture, materials, and light come together. Generously sized black wood-and-aluminum windows open up the space and let in plenty of natural light through their slim frames. Inside, the dark wood creates a warm, cozy atmosphere, while the aluminum on the exterior provides durable protection and a modern look.

A GLANCE AT THE LANDSCAPE

The black windows on the west side frame the landscape and bring the beautiful natural surroundings into the home.
